About this Course:
Fire extinguishers are required in virtually every public and commercial building in the U.S. They are the first line of defense against fire in a building. An extensive body of laws, codes, standards and regulations affects the selection, placement, operation and maintenance of fire extinguishers. This course provides architecture and design professionals with a sophisticated understanding of NFPA 10, NFPA 101, ADA, and ANSI A117.1's guidelines for portable fire extinguishers, and how to design safely, inclusively, and compliantly with this knowledge.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand requirements for portable fire extinguishers, including: Common types of fires and extinguishers Placement and spacing.
2. Understand requirements for accessibility and how they relate to fire extinguishers.
3. Address special considerations in healthcare facilities.
4. Identify the four fire extinguisher installations and discuss advantages and disadvantages.
