Presentation:

The International Building Code (IBC) is an essential tool intended to preserve public health and safety by providing safeguards from hazards associated with the built environment. The IBC addresses design and installation of firestopping materials that meet or exceed public health and safety goals. The IBC provisions provide many benefits, among which is the model code.

This course is intended to identify critical areas and guidelines for firestopping within the IBC that architects, specifiers, construction industry professionals, building officials, fire marshals, firestop contractors and other stakeholders must be aware of to ensure code requirements for a building's life safety a re met.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify code requirements for through penetration firestopping and understand relevant test standards ASTM E814 & UL1479
  2. Identify code requirements for fire-resistant-rated joint systems and understand relevant test standards ASTM E1966 & UL2079
  3. Identify code requirements for perimeter fire containment systems and understand relevant test standard ASTM E2307
  4. Recognize when special inspections are required and standards for evaluating firestop penetration (ASTM E2174) and joint (ASTM E2393) firestop systems
