Krakow, Poland: the 2000 European Capital of Culture, a city with legends of dragons and where kings were once crowned. This month in our CSINext chapter meeting will look at the urban design of this European jewel through the ages. We will look at how ideas of urban design have changed from the medieval grid and fortification walls of a royal city, pre-war prosperity, social realism, modernism, and to the opportunities brought in capitalism. The presentation will discuss how people live in the various plans and effects to quality of life and show examples of architecture throughout the city's history. We will also examine issues surrounding a city that is seeing explosive growth going from almost 50 years of communism to one of the top 10 outsourcing cities in the world.

About the Speaker:

Robert Huserik is a licensed architect in the state of Tennessee. He is currently Lead Architect for US Projects in CH2M Krakow. Rob has been living in Krakow for the past 6 years and first joined CSI as a freshman at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1998. He is a past president of both the Memphis and CSINext chapters.
