President’s Message - November 2014

Greetings CSINexters!
The nation’s election day has come and gone. Voters from across the country made their feelings known in a variety of races at all levels of government. In the next few months, you will start seeing news from CSI about the FY16 elections. Just like with the national elections, the future of the Institute depends on what you do. I implore you to study the candidates’ statements and figure out for yourself which person will represent you best at the national and local level.

If you don’t see what you like, how about putting yourself on a ballot? Serving on a board at any level is one of the most rewarding tasks you can undertake. I know it sounds cliché, but I always get more out of the position that I had to put into it. If you would like to give it a whirl, please get in touch with any CSINext board member or me. We welcome your involvement and feedback. Know this – this chapter is yours. You can make it what you need it to be.

Daylight Savings Time is here, for most of us. Did you know that President Franklin Roosevelt instituted it during the war? The US Congress modified modern DST: “DST was amended again to begin on the first Sunday in April in 1987. Further changes were made after the introduction of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.” I wish they would leave well enough alone and remove DST. The reasons it was instituted are now archaic and our lives are just confused by it. What do you think about DST? http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/history.html

Our next meeting is coming up on November 12, 2014. Kent Kile, PPG, will be making a presentation about solving paint problems. Kent is wonderful presenter and I know you will enjoy this meeting. Remember, CSINext is the only chapter that allows you to earn learning units from the comfort of your own desk. No traffic, no downtime, just excellent presentations.

See you next week!

Cynthia Belisle, RA, CSI, CDT
