Taking office in your chapter is more than just agreeing to attend board meetings! Learn what fiduciary duties are, who owes them, and how they make board members responsible for member services, and the services that chapters are responsible for providing to members.

Bryan J. Varner, CSI, CCCA, LEED AP, was one of the most well-received speakers at CSI’s Chapter Presidents/Presidents-elect training at CONSTRUCT2009 & The CSI Annual Convention this past June. In this session, he will connect the value and purpose of CSI to chapter board members’ fiduciary duties to accomplishing CSI’s mission, and explain how chapter leaders really do stand on the line that defines success-vs-failure in what the organization does.

CSI’s new model chapter bylaws states, “The purpose of the chapter is to provide a medium at the local level for advancement of the objectives of the Institute.”

What does that mean? It means chapters, because of the charter they sought and received, and chapter boards, which are responsible for all operations and the chapters’ successes and failures, have a big job to do.

Too many people think that the Institute or someone else is responsible for increasing awareness of CSI and growing membership. No way! It’s chapter board members who are responsible for creating the CSI experience that make CSI what it is.

This presentation is intended to:

  • Orient and ground any volunteer board member in any organization
  • Explain the legal duties of volunteering for a board
  • Empower and obligate board members to make real the intended benefits and values the organization was created to achieve
