November 2025 Meeting

Meeting Date: November 12, 2025
Meeting Time: 12:00pm EST
Meeting  RSVP: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_uDyOUrQWQJCUulgcholJIQ

Speaker: Thad Goodman, FCSI, CDT, CCPR, LEED Green Associate

Presentation:

This session will provide information and instruction for placement of flexible breaks in long runs of gypsum wallboard assemblies known generically as control joints. It will provide background information related to thermal expansion of gypsum board products and structural movement in today’s buildings. It includes case studies on both wood and steel stud projects, showing the examples of best practices while exposing wall assembly shortcomings. There will be instruction on the flexible break in the wall or ceiling that allows the structure to expand and contract without transferring the stress to the drywall.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To review & identify what control joints are, what types are available and how they should be used.
  2. To outline who is responsible for control joint placement at each stage of the project development.
  3. Recognize the conditions that demand relief and show examples of real-world conditions that have stretched the wall assembly to the breaking point.
  4. Establish best practices through a series of Q & A type questions in order to give the design professional solid background on the control joint placement process.

Learning Units will be provided: Yes (AIA LU/HSW)
