Presentation:

The new US Embassy to the United Kingdom, in London, was won through competition by KieranTimberlake in 2010. The widely published, high profile, award-winning, and high performing project was substantially completed in 2018. Executed by KieranTimberlake for the US Department of State, Overseas Building Organization group, the project set many high standards for building design, performance, and outcomes.

James Timberlake’s presentation will touch on the processes of executing and winning the competition, design development of the innovative aspects of the project, the unique program necessary to serve diplomacy around the world, and the impacts of the executed project on the redevelopment of Wandsworth, Nine Elms, in London..

  1. Reconciling conflicting environmental and building codes, regulations with international projects, toward positive outcomes.
  2. Understanding product streams, logistics with international projects.
  3. Appreciating material innovation and applications with high profile projects.
  4. Building in the UK under their best practices, construction safety standards.

About the Speaker:

James Timberlake is a founding principal of KieranTimberlake, an internationally renowned architecture firm whose projects include the programming, planning, and design of new structures as well as the conservation, renovation, and transformation of existing buildings, with special expertise in education, government, arts and culture, civic, and residential projects. James’ work reflects his belief in beautifully crafted, thoughtfully made buildings holistically integrated to site, program, and people.
