Construction specifications are an essential part of Contract Documentation. But does every project require a full separate Project Manual? What level of project documentation is appropriate for small or simple projects? Some project delivery methods allow specications to be shorter and still have the information required to describe and enforce project quality and design intent. Learn the basics, hints, trips, tricks and the key language for preparing professional short form project documentation and annotation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate projects by complexity, type and delivery methods to determine if appropriate for reduced specications.
  • Coordinate the information contained in Drawing and Specication, by breaking down a section.
  • Type, placement and organization of Drawing Annotation.
  • Reassembling the Section into drawing annotation.

About the speaker:

John is Director of Construction Technology for AXIA Architects in Santa Rosa, CA specializing in Construction Contract Administration, Specifications, Bidding and Quality Control with over twenty-five years experience in a wide variety of educational, institutional and industrial facilities for local, state and Federal government agencies as well as corporate and private clients.

Since 2000, John serves on the faculty of Sonoma State University teaching Construction Contract Administration and Construction Specifying in the School of Extended Education Construction Management Program. He is a regular presenter of continuing education programs on construction related topics and has received numerous awards and recognitions for architecture, construction specications and industry education, including honors by the Construction
